When it was time to begin a new project, I decided I wanted to create an infographic product. I was not familiar with infographic charts, so I researched about infographics and how they were supposed to look. Once I realized how they are designed, I got started right away! I decided to use a website called Piktochart.com because I can log in using my Google information. When I started working, I didn’t even know where to begin! I decided to watch the Piktochart tutorial. I wanted to create an infographic about my school, Drakes Creek Middle School. I only wanted to do a couple of slides, so I kept it pretty basic. This way, anyone could learn a little about how great my school is! Drakes Creek is an amazing school, so I figure I picked the right topic. When I began, I started to type basic information on each slide, but then I had a little problem. Once I clicked out of the text box, it would not let me open it to edit. To fix this problem, I deleted the text box and re-typed my final information. Once all of the text boxes were done, I added backgrounds and images. The images were easy to handle and so were the backgrounds. I chose to use these backgrounds because I felt they matched the mood of my infographic. The clipart I used came from the Piktochart program. The clipart I used blended well with the text and backgrounds on each slide. To finish the images, I even added pictures from the internet. I searched Google Images and sorted the images to find ones that were labeled for reuse. Many of them actually came directly off of the Drakes Creek website. I am very pleased with how my infographic turned out! I think it looks great because it really fits the mood of my school. The colors, texts, and photos used fit into the theme of the piece. I am very proud of my hard work. I started out my infographic by creating a blank template on Piktochart. I started out by looking at what text boxes I could use, and decided I would use banner text boxes throughout most of my infographic.
I put my topic, which is Kentucky, clearly at the top of the infographic in a banner, along with a picture below it.
Then I started coming up with topics, my first one being Kentucky Culture. I researched things commonly associated with Kentucky, such as the food, the Kentucky Derby, and bourbon.
I put this all together in a panel, using a “By The Numbers” section to sort my information, with the facts being put in banners, continuing the theme. I then put a fact that I picked in a large box off to the side to grab the reader’s attention. I finished the panel off with a banner at the top saying “Kentucky Culture” in nice, bold letters. I followed this general process with my three other panels, and was gave me a great resource to share about Kentucky.
